Thanks Randy!

Added this stater from Poseidonia in Lucania.  Won at a very small auction with not much interest in ancients.  It's a coin you don't see often and it's very nice for the type.  A great little coin! Lovely toning and in hand it looks even better.

Wow, Jay => congrats on adding today's gorgeous stater (it's a total winner!)

I love the Poseidon obverse and the cool bull reverse (cha-ching!)

Won  a very rare variant of a Brettian drachm last week.   It's very difficult to photograph... this one is great in hand.  I think that's probably why I ended up getting it.  Photos really don't do this one justice.

Really loving these southern Italian coins.  The Brettians were mountain dwellers who over ran most of southern Italy.  They sided with Hannibal against the Romans and there is a bridge at the bottom of the mountain my town is on that is called "Hannibal's bridge".  It's dated to the 2nd century B.C. although it's Roman not Carthaginian  .   I go to the beach near Curinga where a very important hoard of Punic and southern Italian/Republican coins was found.  I got to get back there!

Anyway, enjoy!

Hi Jay,

Nice Poseidonia and Brettian coins. :)

On the obverse of the Poseidonia coin, that's a strange pose (the angle of his body). I don't think I've ever seen an example of that variety.

I love this veiled Hera!
I thought about bidding on this one myself, but times are tight. I'm glad it found a good home. Congratulations on a beautiful addition Jay.

That is a very nice portrait Jay, thanks for sharing!

It is well centred and the flan looks particularly round for a denarius!

Well, I'm very close to 1.000 Domitian coins at present and I never grow tired.

Wow Jay, three great new editions (all total winnas)

Man, a love the bull brokage (is it a brokage? ... I'd better go look again)

=> Nope, it's a sweet incuse (again, they're all great coins, but I'm especially lovin' the animal incuse from Lucania!!)

Ummmm, Jay ... do you wanna see my three cool Nomos examples from Lucania?

Yup, Lucania has some great AR examples (my three examples are pretty humble, but they're still pretty cool)

Thanks for letting me post 'em (they're not quite as nicely toned as your new drachm example => congrats again)

  +++

These humble nomos coins make amazingly cool golf ball markers, or flip-a-coin pocket pieces (they're the size of a nickel, but as heavy as a 50 cent piece => yup, they always got the double-glance and were a great opportunity to geek-out with coin conversation) ... just don't forget to pick-up your ball marker!!

 ;)
