Probably Caracalla, Marcianapolis
« on: May 13, 2017, 05:44:36 pm »
I finally feel like this worn thing is Roman, rather than Greek.  I know it's low quality, but can anyone identify it?

AE 18.01, 4.9 grams. Bust Right, N @ 2 o'clock / Bunch of Grapes, A @ 8 o'clock.

thanks

Difficult to read, but I think I can read on the revese OYLPIAC P which would indicate Pautalia, Thrace. Possibly Caracalla on basis of the portrait + what is readabel of the legend.

Something like http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/caracalla/_pautalia_Ruzicka_749.jpg

Just my 2 c on the topic,

I'd go with Caracalla, I think I can see much of ANTĪ©NEINOC
on the obverse. I wouldn't rule out Markianopolis for the city.
