Two faces Constans AE3/4
« on: April 28, 2017, 03:39:57 am »
Hello.

I have a extrange Constans´ coin.
It have two faces.
The legend of both sides is CONSTANS P.F. AVG.
The size is 14 mm.
I don´t have the weight.
I didn´t found any reference.
Maybe it could be an ancient counterfeit.

Any thoughts???

Thanks, Ignacio.

Style looks like an ancient imitative issue--and with two obverses very unusual!

Thanks for posting the coin Ignacio.  It is very interesting.

It is clearly an imitative coin.  As djmacdo says the style alone makes it imitative.  The two busts looks to me likely simply laziness or negligence in the unofficial mint.  They used two obverse dies to strike this one instead of an obverse and a reverse

My guess is it was mean to have a two victories reverse.

Interestingly, the two obverse dies are clearly made by the same hand.  They are very close in all details.

Thank for yours coments.

I think the letters are another reason for an imitative coin. I didn't realise the two observes dies are made by the same hand.

As you say it's an interesting Coin.

Ignacio.
