Request - Sculpture at the Mint Museum Charlotte NC
« on: April 18, 2017, 07:13:12 am »
A rather odd request: My mother is working on a monograph of a monumental sculptor from Ireland who worked in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Robert Costelloe, and who amongst other work produced monumental sculptures.

A source has told me that one such sculpture, entitled Kanturk, and pictured below in a 1970s New York City publicity shot, may be at the Mint Museum in Charlotte NC. Some numismatists on Forum undoubtedly know this museum, and the object it pretty large (see pic below), yet when I google pics of the museum I don't see it.

Is anyone on Forum aware of such an item at the Mint Museum in Charlotte NC, or in a position to show a picture of it?

Google helps  :) :
https://www.mintmuseum.org/art/collections/item/kanturk/

It seems to be owned by the mint museum but installed on the university campus.

Ah great! Very much appreciated. I did google but didn't get to this page.

The artist is NOT British but Irish. Grrrr! :(

In Google maps you can even see the place where the sculpure is installed now:
https://www.google.de/maps/place/Robinson+Hall/@35.3037589,-80.7300202,95a,35y,39.42t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x88541c048baaaaab:0x1f53eabcee9b0a2c!8m2!3d35.303809!4d-80.7299355?hl=de
(you have to copy the whole link and to insert it manually in the URL line of your browser because Forum software brakes the link :( )

Following this book it has had at first two different places where people didn't like it:
https://books.google.de/books?id=vXvvabk0pjcC&lpg=PA233&ots=A9KO4GLdvW&dq=sculpture%20charlotte%20kanturk&hl=de&pg=PA233#v=onepage&q=kanturk&f=true

It's fascinating what you can find out sitting at home :) .
