The engraver forgot to put the head on the spear?

Also no head on spears at the Carus-family-coins, the combination shield-spear is logical  but is it without shield a spear or sceptre?

I have had a look through me Probus coins as a small sample.

None of my Lugdunum coins show a clear spear head.

apart from bust types with a different orientation (seen from rear in this case)

Though even this is not consistent

Rome mint varies with clarity of the spear head

Ticinum varies in clarity

clear

unclear

Siscia also varies

clear

unclear

All my relevant Serdica coins have a clear spear tip

Similarly for Cyzicus

I will state that my sample size for Serdica and Cyzicus (3-6 relevant coins) are much smaller than all the other mints (dozens).

Regards,
Martin
