Barbarous FTR overstruck on regoular Constantinian coin
« on: February 06, 2017, 05:11:57 am »
Hi,
I've bought some barbarous coins of the IVth century. Two or three are good examples of overstruck coins on official coinage.
This is one with a great olive patina.

The remains legends are: "NVS MAX(?)" and "A EXE" so I think that the original coin may be a GLORIA EXERCITVS of Constantine I.
May be correct?

Sorry for my english!

Your English is fine.  Thanks for posting this interesting coin.  What size is it?

It's 1,85gr and 17 mm.
I think that it is a regular size for an official GLORIA EX.

Yes, I think so too.

Funny that the GE type seems to have been an off-set strike.  It is not centred.

This is another piece: who is the "under" emperor?

1,18 gr - 15 mm
