Nikomedes of Bithinia?
« on: February 03, 2017, 04:09:08 am »
Hi, ladies and gentlemen.
I've been away for a while from the forum. Many years, in fact...
I recently came back to the collecting of Roman coins. I rarely venture in buying Greek coins, since I don't know them well enough to take the risk. I rarely make an exception, and this coin is one of them.
Could you confirm me that it's a silver coin by king Nikomedes of Bithinia? In my hands and at a first closer examination it seems genuine, but I'm very dubious about the small pits, possibly by fusion, and by the exceedingly fat looking of the ruler...
The coin weighs 9,3 grams, 30 mm of diameter.
Any help will be welcome!
I thank you in advance for your kind attention!

9.3 grams for a tetradrachm is very low.
