Lucius Verus denarius
« on: January 31, 2017, 08:17:35 pm »
Hello all,

Here is my submission for coin of the day.

This is a denarius of Lucius Verus with Parthia seated left in the morning postion on the reverse. It has a rainbow toning on both sides that hasn't come through great in the pictures, but goes around the circumferance of the coin.

Obv:L VERVS AVG ARMENIACVS: Emperor's bare head facing right.

Rev: TRPIII IMPII COSII, ARMEN in exergue: Parthia seated left in mourning position, amid shields, vexillum before her, quiver and bow behind her.

17mm, 3.41g

This denarius was issued in celebration of a successful campaign by Lucius Verus over the Armenians

Beautiful coin.

Though Parthia might also be thinking, "Well, I lost, but at least I gave them the plague......."

Haha that's entirely possible Shawn, she does look quite thoughtful in her pose.

Quite beautiful.

I have a Marcus Aurelius one like this as well, but it is not much to look at. I am currently trying to give it a similar tone to the lucius verus to make it a little more attractive.
