RIC volume 1
« on: January 14, 2017, 05:24:30 pm »
Does anyone have a pdf of the first edition of RIC volume 1, Julio Claudians?  I have been searching it and all I have come up with is the second edition from 1984:

How is this not a copyright issue?  Anyway, I would be grateful if anyone can point me to an online version of the first edition.
Thanks
Kevin

I have been looking for the first edition for ages because it lists a number of coins which are not in the second edition. I used to have the actual book (as well as all the BMC Greek catalogs) until I loaned it and several of the BMC Greek catalogs to an Australian who had inherited some coins from his father in Bern - he borrowed the books and then left the country without returning them, and I have been unable to find him to send him a bill...  >:(

An Australian!

Hmm, what can I do to help you track down this reprobate?

I had the same thing happen to me with some of the annotated
auction catalogues from the archives of Empire Coins. I loaned
them to a chap who collected high-end sestertii and he wanted
to check a few possible provenances. No problem, I said, just
give them back when you are finished with them.
Months went by, and then I found out he sold a number of his
books to another dealer. Sure enough, in the boxes were *MY*
catalogues (and a less-than-helpful dealer).

I took some comfort in the knowledge that he later went to gaol
for crimes that should not be mentioned in polite circles, and he
lost his medical licence. Come to think of it, I believe he may be
due for release some time soon. I'll have to check.

Name and shame this person, and I will see what can be done
down here to try to sort this matter out for you.
