Hi zoser,

For comparison purposes, here is my Thrace, Sestos lyre coin (scroll down, last coin):

Thanks so much to both of you, I have had a look and what a pitty as mine doesn´t seem to be any of the ones thatyou have posted.

I am wondering if is possible that it isn´t from Sestos, one cause I cannot trust on sellers ID (he is quite bad a that, even when he is such a great dealer), and the other one cause I haven't seen anyone from Sestos that maches mine.

On mine it could be seen  :Greek_Eta: :Greek_Omega: one the reverse, wereas I think i haven´t seen any one from Sestos with these 2 letters on it.

King regards

The dealer probably thought he saw C - H flanking the lyre; I agree that it isn't necessarily Sestos, and Apollo-Lyre type-coins are common throughout Greek antiquity.

The letter before the Omega probably is an elder variant of Zeta, like on coins of Kyzikos, not a Iota.
But I have no idea about the origin of this coin neither  :-\ .

Thanks so much for your help

Hi everyone, having a look on Acsearch and Wildwinds I have seen that there was a city that minted coins with the same Apollo portrait as mine on ANV and a lyre on REV with an  :Greek_Eta: on right hand site, I mean Delos on the Cyclades.
Here I have added some pictures.
On this picture lyre is quit different but that city has some silver coins with the exactly Lyre.
What I haven't found anywhere is any of them that show  :Greek_Omega: as mine does.

Could it be possible that my coin was from Delos?

Thanks for any opinion.

Not Delos.
Your coin apparently shows a chelys, Delos shows a lyre (perhaps kithara or phorminx).
Also, the ethnic does not match at all.

The problem with most description and accompanying search terms, is that this type of
musical instrument is frequently misidentified. The names kithara, chelys, lyre, phorminx, etc.,
are regularly mislabeled. It appears that some people simply don't know one from the other,
which is fair enough, or copy a name they know from another coin and transfer it to their own
coin, well intentioned albeit wrongly.

Hi folks,

I agree with OM. It is not Delos. The lyre/kithara is a completely different form and style.

So far, we know that the reverse legend reads: "...IO" or "...ZO" (in English).
