Coin? Or did i clean a rock?
« on: December 23, 2016, 08:18:35 pm »
Ok, going through a lot of uncleaned coins from the holyland. Came across this piece. Looks almost like a lump or rock but seems to have a design on the flat side. The sides are pretty close to the same length? Any help would be appreciated.

It resembles a piece of Roman aes rude, but that seems unlikely if you bought it from Holyland. Don't they sell Middle-east lots?  What else was in the lot you purchased?

It came out of the UK from an internet retailer that sells hoards by weight. I have seen greek, judean, roman, byzantine coins. Sizes from 6mm to 38mm.

Please post a picture of the flat side that you say has a design.  Also, please provide size in mm and weight in grams.

Rock. More precisely gravel or pebble ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grain_size
