« on: December 03, 2016, 05:29:36 pm »
A recent acquisition that I thought worth sharing. It has been largely destroyed by the cleaner but I thought itinteresting despite the damage.

Constantine the Great - Follis

Obv:– FL VALERIVS CONSTANTINVS P F AVG, laureate head right
Rev:– BONO GENIO PII IMPERATORIS, Genius standing left, holding patera and cornucopia
Minted in Alexandria (crescent / K G / P //ALE)
Reference:– RIC VI 138 var. (unlisted officina).

26.94 mm, 6.05g, 0 degrees

Nice find!  Too bad about the scratch marks.  Ancient or a horribly inept cleaner?

I was very lucky to find mine in a tray a dealer had of unlabelled coins.  All were GENIO POPVLI ROMANI but this one.  His prices were a bit high for the GPR, but a good deal for the BGPI.

"Not in RIC" cites another specimen from the same third officina, different dies from yours on both sides, from CNG 84, 5 May 2010, lot 1517, ex White Mountain Collection.

Nice coin and great eye to catch....shame on the one who scratched it

Have ones of Maximinus Daza from all workshops.
Interesting type from the Alexandrian mint
