Joe, sorry, I was being deliberately cryptic. At first glance this is a very common coin. You look at it and think "I've seen hundreds, if not thousands of these." I learned about these
rare variants with the
cross from
Thomas, here on this board, a few years ago -- and I have been looking for one ever since. It's far less than 1% of the issue of
Constantinople. Maybe a tenth of one percent or less?
I figured
Thomas would jump in and identify why the coin is
rare, and he did not disappoint.
