Titus as Caesar Rare Denarius Upgrade
« on: October 18, 2016, 01:26:41 am »
My latest acquisition is a significant upgrade of a rare 'o' mint type. https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-132544

Here is my first example acquired from Harry Sneh over six years ago. https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-54909

I can justify keeping both of them because they have different die axes.

Very nice addition, congrats!

Did you won also the Titus RIC V 1496 (misclassified) that was in auction last sunday?

Personally I think that denarii of this issue have the best portraiture, I like them much more than Ephesus.

As for keeping doubles, I always do it!

Kind regards

Alberto

Thanks for the kind words Alberto.

No, I did not win the coin in question. I had another 'o' mint denarius in my sights.

Thank you both for the kind words. To a Flavian collector these 'o' mint denarii are something special. I'm glad to see others appreciate them as well.

David it is always a pleasure to see a good Flavian portrait. The period produced portraiture that has been rarely equaled and never bettered. Look at that head of Titus, it simply radiates confidence in the future. Ironic considering his tragically short reign.

Your Flavian collection is going from excellent to outstanding, well done my friend.

Best regards,

Steve

Thanks Jay and Steve for the kind words.

Hang in there Jay, a few of these 'o' mint beauties come up for auction every now and then.

And Steve, I agree with you about the style. The eye's fine detail is quite elegant, elevating the portrait to another level.
