1 nomisma weight, but what coin type underneath? looks Greek but no Obverse appreciable.

Thanks as always!

Glad to have a rainy day at home to get back to coins and weights!

Thought I would show something I am playing with. Saw at a coin show back in the spring where someone had drawn really nice art work on coin tags. I bought some art pens and having been playing with designs. I have come to realize I am not much of a artist but its been fun to practice. I saw this design on a web site and thought I would give it a try.

It looks to me like an Alexander III club and bow and bow case type (reverse)...AE of course. upside down in your picture.
The obverse has a head of Herakles wearing a lion skin.

I agree about this originally being a coin of, probably, Alexander III.

You might want to rotate your "obverse" image about 90 degrees
counter-clockwise.

At the moment, the eye and nose may been discernible near the
edge of the flan at 6h, "looking" downwards (for now).

A also expect that the "reverse" is rotated correctly, with the club
at the top and the bow and bowcase at the bottom.

I seem to be able to read a couple of the letters of the fragmentary
legend: ..AΝΔΡ.. from about the centre of the coin towards and then
beyond the right edge (around 2h - 3h).

If you are able to verify any of that, or perhaps determine anything
extra, then you will confirm this fascinating hypothesis.

The club is not always at the top.
I "think" the lettering is upside down in this photo, but....

This specimen is known several times. Compare: K. Weber, "Late Antiquity Weights", The Second Life of Antique and Late Antiquity Coins. Special No.071. You will also find some similar pieces.
