Revolt of the Heraclii solidus currently for sale?
Price started at $0.99.
Overweight at 4.6g. Hard to comment on
style considering that the genuine specimens are also crude. But what jumps out to me is (i) no traces of any
border, though all genuine specimens I have managed to find have
part of the
border struck, and this seems particularly suspicious given the high
weight; (ii)
cross is not centered over the steps, though other specimens generally appear symmetrical; (iii) C in
CONOB starts way to the left of the bottom step, which seems off; (iv)
VICTORIA does not follow a consistent
arc like most genuine specimens seem to do; (v) pointy
head on right figure looks odd; (vi) vertical folds in consular robes seem to be cut too deep.
Individual letters seem to follow the correct
style. If someone cut this from scratch, I think this is close enough to be convincing and a dangerous fake for this
type.
