ID Help, please. Two headed eastern provincial?
« on: August 22, 2016, 09:17:34 pm »
I have this (in my opinion) cool two-headed coin.  In fact, I don't really know which side is the obverse.  Prettier in person.

3.26 g &  17mm

Thanks!

Probably Carrhae, MesopotamiaCaracalla possibly.

Does look similar.  Any idea on what the legend could be?   The weaker side appears to have PAN on it.   (Which could be R AN).  Does that fit with Caracalla?

Thanks,
Nathan

It looks like (Greek)   :Greek_Upsilon: :Greek_Rho:  :Greek_Alpha: :Greek_Nu: :Greek_Tau: from 1:00 to 5:00 then possible  :Greek_Alpha: :Greek_Upsilon:  :Greek_Gamma: continuing on the other side of the bust.  This would fit for Caracalla, but possibly Elagabalus as well.  I'm not certain off hand if Elagabalus had this type at Carrhae or not.

Kurt

edit:  The reverse legend starts at 6:00 and starts  :Greek_Kappa: :Greek_Omicron: :Greek_Lambda: :Greek_omega_small:

Well, I looked at Wildwinds and it appears that Carrhea used

KOL M...

I cannot seem to find KOL W.

The Omega seems to be lower-case.  Is that significant?

Thanks!
