Confirm help, please. Quintillus Alexandria Tetradrachm
« on: July 19, 2016, 09:01:08 pm »
Greetings.  I believe this is a Quintillus tetradrachm.  What do you think?

8.53g    &   19mm

Thanks,
Nathan

Nathan L:

Missing half the inscription and bust type not clear from picture (should be a front view of cloak+cuirass), however the other details fit Quintillus: inscription break ...N   (TILL..). , date and reverse type.

The inscription on Quintillus coins is often very weak.

And it has the tight curly hair of Quintillus.

You might have trouble reading the letters if you make no assumptions but if you start with the comparing the legend as expected on a Quintillus, there is little room for doubt,  Over the head is KVIN.  That is enough.  The portrait is very much as I would expect.  The year date is for a one year ruler.  I'd call that one nice coin.
