Gold Alexander stater
« on: July 06, 2016, 06:51:59 am »
I would very much appreciate your input on this coin.
I understand that various cities coined gold staters both during and some time after Alexander lifetime.
I wonder where this one is from. Is the trident indicative of the place?
Thank you and regards

Weight between 8/8.5 gms
Diameter 18mm

Mint is likely “Amphipolis“ because of the style and  the trident symbol
(Price 175)

Same dies and attributed to “Amphipolis

Museum collections without an exact attribution (only Macedon mint)

Thank you very much for making the research and finding pictures of similar ones that are published.
Is it a rare coin?
Of course it would also be very interesting to know the value.
Would you have a suggestion how to get a valuation?

Thanks again

Almost any gold stater is rare compared to typical modern collectible coins, but this type is considered common by ancient coin collectors.

If you are interested in selling, click the link selling your coins under HELP in the header and consider consignment or send an email for our buy price.  We do not discuss values on this board.  Asking for value may be perceived as an offer to sell. That may not be what you intend but others would. I make my living selling here, and cannot afford to let others use my website to solicit offers.
