« on: July 02, 2016, 10:04:43 pm »
Hello,

Could you help me to ID this money? Is it possible, that it is double-prutah John Hyrcanus I ?

Kind regards,
Paweł

Can we see the other side too?

If there's a helmet on the other side it might be, although the ornamentation and punctuation on the side shown is a bit different than expected.

If it's not Hyrcanus, I'm leaning towards something Nabatean.

It's certainly Nabatean --- there is a ח monogram (=Aretas) on the bottom right and the ornamentation style isn't like on coins of Hyrcanus.

Thank you very much for your answers! Do you know how old is it and what kind of coin exactly is it? The other side of coin is not legible.

Kind regards,
Paweł

Pawel,

Looks like Meshorer Nabataea 62A, from 5/4 BCE (Aretas IV).

The reverse should have the letters פצ (Phas[ael]) in top left field. The obverse should have a laureate bust of Aretas right, with o in field.
