Gordian III Thessalonica
« on: June 13, 2016, 01:28:15 pm »
I would need ID reference for this one. It's Gordian III and the city is Thessalonica.

obv. AVT K M ANTΩ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right.
rev. ΘΕΣΣΑΛΟΝΙΚ[---], Turreted head of city goddess right
Diam. 27 mm, 9.0 g.

Thanks!

(Obverse legend slightly different)

There is I. Touratsoglou's  book, "Die Munzstatte von Thessaloniki" and when i get a minute i will see if i can find the die match - if there is one.

This particular die combination isn't listed in I. Touratsoglou, but appears to be V30-R143, so the obverse/reverse dies are known to have existed.
