Well, this coin seems to be listed in
RIC as #254A (
vol. IV, pt. 3, p. 100). The reference is "
Num. Chron., 1939, p. 25 (Dorchester)".
Many of the "hybrids" mentioned in
RIC for this period (
Gordian, Philip) seem to be just a
bit off when it
comes to the
style. This coin is no exception: In addition to the comments posted above, the lettering appears to be rather large and uneven when compared to other coins of
Philip II. Also, the uniform of Philip on the
reverse is not quite like that on a genuine
PRINCIPI IVVENT reverse. If it is an ancient coin, it is likely not an official one.
