Coin ID - very corroded, odd shape, figures only
« on: May 11, 2016, 01:52:49 pm »
A new one! Very corroded but I think the figures are clear enough.  The basics: 2 g; 1 7/8" wide, 1 7/16 high; 2.2 cm wide, 2 cm high.

One side has the usual bust. The other side has what looks to me (I'm not being funny) like a mermaid (breasts, scaled legs) in a wheelchair with a magic wand pointing to and over an angled stone, palm tree for a tail with coconut at its base. You will probably find my description hilarious on the other hand. Thank you in advance.

The emperor is Aurelian, I'd recognize the pencil neck anywhere!  The reverse is Fortuna seated left.  That should give you enough to do some further research.

Ha ha, "pencil neck." Thank you very much. Guess I was a bit off with the "mermaid." :-)

Your mermaid comparison caught my attention because I collect coins of Poseidon/Neptune.  Not a lot of Mermaids floating around though.

Curious. Is it an Antoninianus? Thank you!
