Strap end? Furniture decoration?
« on: April 29, 2016, 08:50:18 pm »
Hi all,
I'm not sure what this was...

It appears to be silvered bronze or something similar I don't know, it's not magnetic but after a little scratch I didn't see a real copper or bronze color but more of just a grey like an late 3rd century Roman billon coin. It's certainly old and handmade but if it's 200 years or 2000 years old, I'm not sure.

It was reportedly a metal detector find in Nis (Naissus) Serbia.

Is it a Strap end? Furniture decoration?

I'm just as interested in hearing thoughts on culture and era of manufacture. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Josh

Ottoman era strap end.  Likely 18th-19th century.
