Sommer 70.4 of Nicaea
« on: February 08, 2016, 02:01:55 am »
Does anyone have a copy of Sommer, A.U. Die Münzen des Byzantinischen Reiches 491-1453. Mit einem Anhang: Die Münzen des Kaiserreichs von Trapezunt. (Regenstauf, 2010)?
If so could you enlighten me as to what Sommer says about Type (I presume) 70.4, which is I think a new type of Nicaea?

It seems Bendall's theories about the Christ Chalkites types being issues of Andronicus I Gidon are looking more than a little shaky.
No surprise there of course.

Stylistically this is different from the anonymous Christ Chalkites types, so the latter probably are from a different mint. In principle then they might still be issues of Andronicus I Gidon, but I wouldn't feel too confident about that.
