Eastern AE ID Help - I really have NO idea!
« on: November 29, 2015, 12:20:39 pm »
This piece came in a larger mixed group-lot, from which all others
were readily identifiable, but this one has me stumped (though, in
fairness, I know next to nothing about Eastern items).

Indian? Islamic? Other Eastern issuers?

Can anyone assist with this small piece, please?

Dimensions: about 13 x 14.5mm (c.2mm think); Weight: 2.83g

Due to it being slightly concave, I expect that the side with what
appears to be a standing figure would be the reverse. I am not
sure what is (or is meant to be) depicted on the 'obverse'.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks Arminius,
I'll give that a go, and see what transpires.
Of course, if anyone else in the meantime has another,
narrower suggestion, that would also be appreciated.
All the best,

Walter

Yes...Kushan.   Gobl 1010, I believe.  Vasudeva II or successor.

Thanks Robert,
I think you have nailed it. A question or two, if I may: . . .
Just had a look at a couple of other Göbl 1010s and saw that
they generally appeared to be a little larger, and weighed a
little more. Is there a lot of variety in sizes/weights for these?
(I don't have the above reference, just web-searched a few)

I did a search just for "Göbl 1010" itself and found a Coins of
India site that proferred Vasudeva I, or perhaps Kanishka II
or Vasishka, noting that the attributions were "tentative". So
it seems that there is a range of possibilities with these items.
Interestingly these are also heaver and larger than mine.

Thanks again,

Walter Holt
