Alexius III S-2014
« on: August 24, 2015, 11:33:22 pm »
It has been an interesting summer to find a few rarities, here is now my second example of a very rare coin. S-2014. This is only the second one I have found, the first one was a decade ago.

Searching the web I have found 4 ( two Mine) that have been listed. This coin is believed to be the last Tetarteron to be minted in Constantinople. It is mentioned by most authors of being rare and it does not seem it was ever tested for silver content so I am uncertain if it did still contain silver as the other Constantinople issues did.

Here is a side by side comparison of my two examples. They match in weight 2.7gm but a slight difference in size and flan thickness.

Add in the register of another coin from my collection.
I bought it recently in a group lot for 10 euros.
