Unknown 18mm coin identification help
« on: August 22, 2015, 11:26:26 pm »
Hello, we recently found this coin hidden in our sofa cushions and I am wondering if anyone can please help with identification? My father in law was a collector, but we know very little about coins and have had no luck identifying it ourselves. Appreciate your help.

Sorry forgot to add that it is close to 18mm diameter and its weight is 6gm. Thanks!

Hi Gabrielle,
It is a alexandrian tetradrachm from the late third century AD. Of the bat, I can't read who the emperor is as its in Greek. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Below is a link to Alexandrian coins.

Hello, we recently found this coin hidden in our sofa cushions

A very nice sofa hoard, it's an attractive coin as these things go.
