Mehmed II for ID
« on: July 23, 2015, 12:21:07 am »
Hi all,
This is only my second Ottoman coin and I'm not sure where to start at figuring out the Islamic script. After some poking around I think this is a Mehmed II coin but that's just a guess.

A couple questions:
- Any idea of a reference for the coin (who, where, when and ref number)?
- as I can't read the script, what does the coin say on both sides?
- Are the mint date and year written on the coin? If so where?
- which side is the obverse?

PS: this coin is super small and the photos were taken with my macro lens that attaches to my iPhone... So it looks kinda rough due to the amount of magnification but is really nice in hand!

Thanks!

I thank you both for your replies. I am reviving this dead thread because... After looking through the provided resources (at the time of this post), I'm still at a loss at understanding this coin, it's date, legends and mint... And am now revisiting the coin.

There are just so many similar and not understanding the language or the layout of the coins, I haven't been able to settle on a reference, date, and translation of the script.

Could you kindly help me out a bit more. This is one of on only coins of the type and I'd like to learn how to read them. Thank you again!

Josh
