#034
Jochen,
I acquired this coin from Savoca,
eBay, 28 June 2015, chiefly for the interesting
countermarks, Δ on
obv. and NIKO on
rev., also because the original
types are partly visible, rather than totally flat as on some other specimens with this
countermark!
I think the coin is of
Caracalla at Nicopolis under
Aurelius Gallus, with
type Hermes standing l.
Obv.: might be same die as HHJ 2012, p. 188, second illustration.
Rev: ...[Γ]AΛΛOV NEIKOΠ...legible from 9 to 2 o'clock.
None of the
Hermes types for
Caracalla under Gallus in HHJ 2012 has the
ethnic spelled NEIK rather than just NIK.
27mm, 8.48g, 8h. Savoca's pictures, from
eBay.
