Jochen,

I acquired this coin from Savoca, eBay, 28 June 2015, chiefly for the interesting countermarks, Δ on obv. and NIKO on rev., also because the original types are partly visible, rather than totally flat as on some other specimens with this countermark!

I think the coin is of Caracalla at Nicopolis under Aurelius Gallus, with type Hermes standing l.

Obv.: might be same die as HHJ 2012, p. 188, second illustration.

Rev: ...[Γ]AΛΛOV NEIKOΠ...legible from 9 to 2 o'clock.

None of the Hermes types for Caracalla under Gallus in HHJ 2012 has the ethnic spelled NEIK rather than just NIK.

27mm, 8.48g, 8h. Savoca's pictures, from eBay.

A correction for Elagabal

Elagabal, AD 28-222
AE 28, 11.71g, 27.99mm, 330°
struck under Novius Rufus
obv. AVT K M AVR  - ANTWNEINOC
Bust, draped and cuirassed, seen from front, radiate, r.
rev. VP NOBIOV ROVFOV.NIKOPOLITWN PROC IC
Nike, in long double chiton, advancing l., head turned r., holding in l. arm palm branch and
       in raised r. hand wreath
ref. a) AMNG I/1, 1926 var. (has PROC ICTRON)
      b) not in Varbanov (engl.)
      c) Hristova-Hoeft-Jekov (2015) No. 8.26.9.1 corr. (same dies but writes AVT M AVR and
          PROC ICTRON)
coll. Hoeft

AMNG and HrHJ (2015) both write PROC ICTRON, but the pics in HrHJ (2015) only show PROC IC. And I think there is not enough space for ICTRON.
