Hi
Quadrans,
Yes this is the coin
Lanz 159 ( December 2014), 582.
Now you can see that both your half-coin and this
Lanz are sharing the same
reverse die.
Lanz attributions to a quinar and
Ticinum are just not correct.
The
weight 2.4 gms refers to a
denarius, not to a
quinarius ( where the
weight normally varies from 1.4 to 1.8 g. )
The normal size of a
quinarius is usually smaller from 15-16 mms.
The
style of the
Lanz coin and of your coin is definitely not
Ticinum, which struck very few
denarii, mostly consular for Diocletianus and
Maximianus, during this period.
Thus, your halved coin is the 2nd known of Diocletianus of this
type.
Datation is I feel either
Spring 286 after Maximian's accession, or 289-290 as a companion
denarius to the start of the large issue of
antoniniani VICTORIA AVGG of
Siscia.
289 is also the year of the large
victory over Sarmatians.
Quadrans, you seem to have interesting
types of
the Tetrarchy. Lately we discussed here another of your coins, a
mule Antoninianus of Diocletian/
Maximian of the Primis Multis in
Rome.
Do you have other odd pieces of this period ?
