Help identifying Byzantine coin
-
Justin I, SB 63, mint of Constantinople, fourth officina. I think we can read enough of the obverse inscription to be confident that this is a Justin I coin and not the very similar type (SB 158) issued under Justinian I.

Thank you ! Any idea what its value ?

Not much, given its condition – if you put it up for auction here at FORVM, a few dollars. The coin has at least slight interest because of the unusual (i.e. incorrectly engraved) inscription ending …PPAC rather than the normal …PPAVC. But it’s a common type, not that well preserved, and blundered legends are not that uncommon. And you have to be an enthusiastic Justin I specialist even to care about variant inscriptions.

On a more optimistic note, you should know that these types are rarely found in good condition due to their long circulation until well into the seventh century. As common as this type is, an EF with all the details in place might easily go up to a few hundred dollars.
