Please let us know the size and weight of the coins.
The first looks like this:

the second looks like Ptolemaic bronze.

fakes,
both are very bad fakes.
those are from Alkhalili market I think :)
-
Salem is correct. Size and weight are irrelevant. Both are fake.

Fake coin reports please.

sand cast
-
Yes, sand cast.
But what is neat is that because the Ptolemaic model had a concave reverse (they likely used a genuine coin as the mould piece) you can detect a pooling of metal that partially filled in the concave part even further obscuring the detail.

No 1 - You were digging 2 metres down in the desert for what reason? Sounds a little strange to say the least. Especially as digging a hole 2m deep in that kind of ground would not be easy to avoid collapses.
No 2 - I am not aware of standard metal detectors that can find targets that small at a depth of more than 45cm. So finding a target 2m deep sounds extremely strange.
No 3 - You found "vases", and yet these carefully hidden hoard containers contained 2 "coins". Sounds strange again, to say the least.
No 4 - You can believe it or not. They are NOT genuine coins. If, which I sincerely doubt, your story is real, then at the very best they may be ancient cast fakes.
However, the thought of you wandering around the desert, digging down more than 2m to find clay vases with 2 fake coins in them really doesn't ring true.

I love these stories, keep going!

I love these stories, keep going!
Yeah. Entertaining and ridiculous nonsense. Perhaps one could combine the usual stories.
"This coin was found in my attic where I was conducting an estate sale of my grandfather's effects in a tomb buried two metres underground in the egyptian desert, which our guide fell into by surprise".
-
Maybe he's a bedouin installing a modern egyptian crapper.
-
Just add further weight to what's been said, these are terrible obvious fakes made by amateurs (or their kids) in their spare time for the tourist market. There isn't a 0.00001% chance that they are real. Sorry, but you've been suckered.

Hilarious!

ha ha ha ... really funny guys ... its like i told ... these bedouins are searching now for more than 2 years with a high tech metal detector ... they found several stuff in these years, but never precious ... this coins they found in a cave in 2 meter depth covered in vases ... thats fact ;D
-
It doesn't change the FACT that they are still fakes.

As an avid metal detectorist, using a top of the line Whites currently, please give me the make and model of the detector that goes down 2 meters.
-
This is no fun, no subtlety, no style. You need to try much harder.
-
Maybe they also found a button...
-
Did they find any jars with scrolls in?
-
There is nothing "top of the line" about any Whites detector !! Bad example.

So rather than just comment on such a "Bad example", maybe you can illustrate your point with some good examples. Also clarifying depth of detection would be good for this discussion.

Or, perhaps we can start a new topic on metal detectors on a different board?

Ha! You are just jealous that a metal detector won't increase your inventory over there! :P
Just wanted to prove a point to the OP Joe, but I take your point also :)

You didn't happen to find any old buttons down there did you? ;D
