Title: King Tut gets his horn blown
Post by: Heliodromus on April 18, 2011, 10:13:58 am
Got your attention?

The real (recent) story here is that one of King Tut's trumpets had been stolen from the Cairo museum during the recent riots, but has since been recovered.

The back story on the trumpet(s) is interesting though - how they were sounded, with much pomp, back in 1939.

If the BBC player isn't working for you, there's also a nice reading of the story, with historical photos plus the performance itself, here:

The trumpets are in fine voice, but I can't imagine anyone speaking in quite such plummy tones these days!
