Title: Didrachm of Caesarea, need attribution

Hi!

Here I have a second didrachm from Caesarea with Mt.Argaeus on rev. The seller has added only the number from Sear GIC Anyone who does know wether this type is in Sydenham or Metcalf? Thanks in advance!

Description:
Marcus Aurelius AD 161-180
AR - didrachm, 6.77g, 20.93mm
obv. AVTOKR ANTWNEINOC CEB
bare head, r., typical curled hair
rev. VPA - TOC G
Agalma of Mt. Argaeus, star above summit
Sear GIC 1661
scarce, VF, lightly toned

Hi Jochen

I think this is Metcalf 130a, Pl.34 612-628, and he cross references it to Sydenham 327. I don't see any die-matches on Pl.34

Beaten to it.  That'll teach me to have an early night :)

There seems to be 8 variations of the Marcus obverse.  Yours being the simple "head right".  There were 17 examples found in the hoard - which seems to be the more common type.

Apparently (at the time of publishing at any rate) all but 4 of the above 17 are still in the possesion of the ANS (book was published in 1996).
