Title: Aelius Sestertius before and after
Post by: SC on March 23, 2020, 10:30:32 am
This was several months back, but I finally have the time to post it.

This is not from an uncleaned lot.  It is from a large lot consisting of an early 20th century Austrian collection sold via the Dorotheum in Vienna and purchased by me almost ten years ago.  Several of the sestertii could use cleaning - this was one.

The coin is:

Aelius Caesar
Sestertius
Rome mint, 137 AD
L AELIVS CAESAR, bare head right.
TR POT COS II, Fortuna, holding cornucopia and rudder, facing Spes, holding flower and skirt.
SC in exergue.
BMC-III-1910 (I have not yet catalogues it in the new RIC-II.)
