Title: What has happened to Munzeo?
Post by: OldMoney on March 18, 2018, 09:21:01 am
Does anyone know who was behind the "http://munzeo.com/" database?

It was working a few weeks ago, although it apparently had not been updated
for a little time before that. Tried it now and it appears to be offline (or dead?).

If it has gone, is there any way for someone to preserve the data, rather than it
being lost forever? It was somewhat useful in its own way. Can it be resurrected?

Walter

Hi Ras,
It was a database of ebay auction sales of ancients, etc.
Not prefect, but good enough if you wanted to add another search to your list.

Hello Walter,

There was a problem with the VPS on which the site was hosted - directspace.net.
I've tried without success to contact them via mail and phone to resolve the problem.
I believe they intentionally deleted the data for some reason.
However munzeo.com had not generated any profit. About $10-$20 left after paying for the VPS, so I just stop maintaining it. Regular updates of the eBay crawler was needed because they change their html structure often.

Currently an old version of the website with limited resources is restored and available at http://munzeo.com
Probably all of the text data is restored but many of the images not, unfortunately.
I'll try to investigate why, the following days.

Best regards,
Trajan

Nice to hear that it has not disappeared forever, as has happened
with some other worthy resources over time.

I too would love to hear an update on Munzeo's image and text database of old eBay auctions.
If it's still available (happy to pay a reasonable fee), I'd love to hear how.
eBay unfortunately deletes their archives very quickly, and even as a purchaser I'm unable to access listings for items I've purchased more than a couple of months ago.

I agree.  Would it be possible to bring it back to life, not gathering new data but allowing us to search the old?
