Here is an interesting Gordian III from Macedonia, Thessalonica depicting one of my favorite Apollo themes. The type commemorates the Pythian Games.
2017.044.1 Macedonia, Thessalonica
AE24; 8.9 g; 12h
Obverse: AV K M ANTΩN-IOC ΓΟΡΔIANO[C]
Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right; seen 3/4 from behind
Reverse: ΘECCΑΛΟΝΙΚΕΩN NEΩ; ΠVΘIA in exergue;
Apollo, nude, standing left; laurel branch in lowered right hand; left hand to head; arm resting on lyre setting on column around which a snake is wrapped; at feet to left a prize urn and 4 apples (or medallions depending on reference being used.)
Ref: Touratsoglou 117 [V13/R85]; Paris 1450; Grose 3801
