Nisibis, or Nesibis, a city of Mesopotamia, at the foot of Mount Masius, erected into a Roman Colony by S. Severus, and made metropolis of the province by Philip senior. -- There are Imperial Greek coins of this colony (struck in honour of Julia Paula, wife of Elagabalus, Alexander Severus, Gordianus Pius, and Philip); but none with Latin inscriptions.
