    MESCINIA, a plebian family; surname Rufus.----L. MESCINIVS RVFVS was monetary triumvir under Augustus. Many coins inscribed with his name are extant, (both in gold and silver, the former of extreme rarity,) because they proclaim the deeds of that Emperor, as occurring in the years V.C. 737 and 738, when he was moneyer.----Morell gives six varieties.
