Macer (|Lucius| |Clodius|), Propraetor of Africa under Nero, and afterwards for a short time invested with the title of Augustus, until he was deposed and put to death by order of Galba. His coins were stuck in |Africa| in silver, and are very rare. Those without the head being perhaps somewhat more common than those with portrait. They present several varieties of type, one of the most interesting of which is here engraved:



L. CLODIVS MACER S C, bare head of |Clodius| Macer / PRO PRAE AFRICAE, a galley upon which is a military standard.
