Hanniballianus



Hanniballianus (Flavius Claudius), nephew of Constantine the Great, and brother of Delmatius., born at Toulouse, in what year is uncertain. He was called Nobilissimus by his Uncle Constantine, who appointed him prefect of Cappadocia and Armenia, which provinces he governed with the title of King, A.D. 335. He and his brother Delmatius were killed by the soldiers [of Constantius II], A.D. 337. (See Delmatius pg 315). Of this prince there are no gold or silver coins. His AE3 issue is very rare. They bear on their obverse FL. HANNIBALLIANO REGI, with bare head, and the paludamentum; and on the reverse SECVRITAS PVBLICA, and also REIPVBLICAE, with a river god [generally considered Euphrates]. - The former valued by Mionnet at 50 fr. the latter at 72 fr.
