Description
Philadelphia, Lydia, 159 - 133 B.C.

MA95538. Bronze AE 15, GRPC Lydia p. 190, 1; SNG Cop 342; SNGvA 3060; Mionnet Supp. VII, 367 corr. (magistrate name), aVF, Lydia, Philadelphia (Alasehir, Turkey) mint, 3.621 grams, 14.8 mm, magistrate Herrmippos, c. 159/138 - 133 B.C.; obverse Macedonian shield; reverse fulmen (thunderbolt), ΦIΛA∆EΛ/ΦEON above and below, all within laurel wreath, EPMIΠ/ΠOΣ (magistrate name) closing wreath at top; estimated value: $60.00

Alasehir began as perhaps one of the first ancient cities with the name Philadelphia. It was established in 189 B.C. by King Eumenes II of Pergamon (197-160 B.C.). Eumenes II named the city for the love of his brother, who would be his successor, Attalus II (159-138 B.C.), whose loyalty earned him the nickname, "Philadelphos," literally meaning "one who loves his brother." The city is perhaps best known as the site of one of the seven churches of Asia in the Book of Revelation.

PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Please read the instructions below and use our automated checkout to make payment for FORVM Auctions. (If you win an auction and Forum is not the seller, you will have to contact them for payment instructions).

Please CHECKOUT WITHIN 3 DAYS after your first FORVM Auction win. After 10 DAYS unpaid FORVM Auctions may be relisted.

Books, lots, and antiquities will require higher shipping charges. They cannot be shipped by first class mail. Oversees shipping for heavy items may be very expensive. If the actual postage exceeds our shipping fee, we will inform you of the difference and expect you to pay the actual cost.

To save money, you may COMBINE SHIPPING CHARGES for coins from multiple FORVM Auctions and also for coins purchased Forum`s fixed price COINS AND ANTIQUITIES CONSIGNMENT SHOP.

To combine shipping, wait until the last auction you wish to combine has closed before checking out (but not more than 10 DAYS after the first auction closed).

To combine shipping with coins from Forum`s fixed-price COINS AND ANTIQUITIES CONSIGNMENT SHOP, add them to your shopping cart immediately before or during Auction Checkout.

During checkout, you will be offered the opportunity to purchase Auction Checkout Specials. These coins are priced at or just above Forum`s cost. If they don`t interest you, ignore them and continue with checkout.

You can combine shipping with items from our fixed-price consignment shop. Just add the items to your shopping cart before you finish checkout.

During checkout, you will select your desired shipping (airmail, registered, priority, FEDEX, etc.) and payment options (including secure credit card submission, check, PayPal, etc.) and place the order.

If you do not checkout after 2 days, we may checkout for you and may either charge your credit card on file, or send you a PayPal invoice.

How To Bid

1. Register for a Forum Ancient Coins account - if you haven't already.
2. Login to your account - if you haven't already.
3. Learn about the seller - Read feedback and ratings left by others to assure that the seller is trustworthy.  Forum bans sellers that have customer complaints, but it is still a good idea to check the seller's feedback.
4. Know the details - read the item description, seller terms, and shipping charges closely.  Sellers are required to accept PayPal (and you should only pay with PayPal), to guarantee delivery, and to guarantee authenticity without a time limit.  Read the sellers listing for other terms and return policies.
5. If you have questions - contact the seller FORVM AUCTIONS before you bid (click on the seller's username to send a message to the seller).
6. Place your bid!  Bid the maximum amount you want to pay for the item.  Your bid is an automated proxy bid and the amount will always be kept secret.  The program will automatically bid for you, the lowest possible amount (one increment above the next highest bid), and only up to your maximum.  If other bids are placed before the auction closes, the system will automatically bid for you again, but again only the minimum amount needed, and only up to your maximum.  If someone else bids more than your maximum, you will not be the high bidder; to win, you will need to place a higher bid before the auction closes.  If you are the high bidder at the end of the auction, you are the winner.  As the winner of the auction, you only pay the lowest possible winning bid, which may be less than your maximum bid.
